I tried to do this last night...but fate was against me as the computers (both) were operating at a snail's pace and the internet kept fading in and out. Still not sure why... but now all seems to be working. I spend much of today in Salem at a music teachers' workshop...fun, but I will pay a price for not being here to do much needed work:)
Here is what I wrote last night: Sunday, August 16th
My plan was to go back to the blog tonight and update us:) Unfortunately, our server is obviously having great problems and we are unable to do much of anything online right now. So - I am typing this up so that when the internet works again I can just paste it in.
Life here has been busy; guess that is nothing new to hear. This week marked our 42nd anniversary... amazing. Feels like just a few years ago...maybe 6 or 7... but I guess all of our kids kind of prove that impossible:) Dad gave me the cutest card (+ 5 Dark Chocolate Milky Way bars). I am going to try to take a picture of it and put it on the blog. Here it is:
Now... isn't that a cute card???
It was great to hear from Charlotte that she and Seth had made an offer on a house and the offer was accepted! Now they have a lot of work to do to finish up the sale - but we are hoping for them that it all goes well. I think Charlotte needs to seriously consider signing up for FlyLady - going from a 1 bedroom apartment to 2600 square feet to take care of is quite a jump:)!
News for this past week: coming up from the barn on Thursday I heard a yowling sound off to my left. I looked over and saw a very large bobcat just on the other side of the pen between the old sheep pen and the old barn. Oooo...I continued quickly up to the house, ran to the front door to say “come in” because I had heard the cattle guard and thought it was my visiting teachers - no one was at the door so I ran to get the binoculars and went out on the front deck to take a closer look at my bobcat. First thing I saw was that there were 2 bobcats - standing facing each other, at least one of them was yowling, I couldn’t tell which - then the 2nd thing I saw was Brother Garvin and his wife driving back up from the barn. Guess they had knocked at the front door and then went to the barn to get some eggs when I didn’t answer. I waved, they rolled down the car window and I told them I was looking at the 2 bobcats - they said where and I pointed them out. They asked if I had a gun; I said Jim did - but I wasn’t any good at shooting anything. (Plus I am not sure we need to shoot them - I still need to learn more. But... I am concerned about the number growing to 5 or 6... Jill said they were doing a mating thing...which we obviously interrupted.) The largest one (the second one I saw) finally turned and headed towards the creek; the female (I assume) finally turned, came back through the old lamb pen, and then mosied across the driveway in front of the horse trailer and on up the hill. My chickens were making their horrendous cackling noise again... makes you wonder if they can smell them! Koda - who was inside the house the whole time - seemed to know they were out there. When my visiting teachers came just a short while later he sat at the glass doors looking out back with practically every hair on his body standing up. When I started to open the door so he could go out - he instantly turned and RAN the opposite direction. Amazing. That was my experience of the week... anyone out there know much about bobcats???
