Long hours, hard days!

I thought I would start with one of the things that I want to remember from Elder Christensen's visit to us last weekend, so here is one small portion of what he said.

Talking about being perfect in Christ and the power of the atonement....Elder Christensen invited two people from the first few rows in the chapel that had been reserved for new converts/investigators & missionaries to come up to the stand.  At the stand he had two tall empty glasses and  pitcher of water.  He asked the woman and the man (unrelated) to each use the pitcher of water and pour in an amount of water to represent their righteousness at this point in their life, a full glass representing perfect.  The woman went first and filled her glass with perhaps an inch or two of water, after which Elder Christensen said, “You need to have a talk with your bishop!”  (laughter)  The man was invited to go next; he filled his glass about a third full.

Elder Christensen then asked two questions of each of them:  1.  Have you been baptized?  and 2.  Are you striving to live your covenants, to keep the commandments?  To both of these questions each answered, “Yes.”

Then Elder Christensen took the pitcher of water and filled both of the glasses with more water representing Christ’s making up the difference so that they were now both “perfect” and told the two people that because of the atonement they were now perfect in Christ, right now!  Perfect in Christ, right now!  He asked if they could tell which part of the water in their glasses came from his pouring as opposed to their pouring - and of course the answer was no.

This was a great lesson on how the Atonement of Christ and his love for us truly does make up the difference between our shortcomings and our desires & current ability to completely live his commandments...as long as we are striving to do so.

Now on to the week ahead:  Emily has a birthday on Friday, March 22nd; hope all of us will remember to wish her a happy one!

And as for the week just ended...here are my notes:

New week.  Monday, 11 March, 2013 A 9 1/2 hour day at the office;  am so very tired.  Our electricity seems to be working well; Jim was able to take the desktop computer in to Apple to day and get it “re-set” - and now it is supposed to work fine.  So is the hard drive.  Those are great blessing for us :)!

Now I am up to Sunday and must try to remember what I can from the week.  Lots of work, long hours, hard to catch things up, but I made some progress.  There have been so many changes with all the new missionaries coming in and then several visa-waiters leaving which necessitated more transfers...trying to get an accurate listing of just who is where has been a real challenge.  Then, to top it off, trying to adapt to a new telephone system has been more of a challenge than we really were prepared for; it is quite a learning experience.  Because all of our mailing labels have been organized according to the speed dial numbers for each missionary, the new phone system has necessitated changing the old numbers to new ones...but we decided to use housing numbers now instead, so that future phone changes won’t affect our mailing ability.  I probably sound like I am rambling on; you cannot begin to understand what I am really talking about without experiencing it, so I really need to quit:)!

Tuesday night we made it to our Tai Chi class; after missing two weeks, we were pretty far behind, but hope to catch up eventually.  Wednesday was the zone conference for our area, so we attended that and were gone from the office until about 3:30 in the afternoon.

Charlotte came down on Wednesday and we got to visit with her on Thursday and Friday.  She was a huge help to me Thursday afternoon in getting the mail done.  Because of all the changes each letter needed a triple check to make sure we were sending it to the right address; hopefully, they ended up all right.  Friday I didn’t get the mail out at all; just worked on getting our main list right so that hopefully Monday it will not take so much of an effort and so much time.  Meanwhile I need to get out checks and thank you letters to those who provided luncheons for the zone conferences this past week and I need to get a supply order done which also should have gone out on Friday.  I do feel very unequal to the tasks before me but with the Lord’s help will get them done.

Charlotte took us to lunch at Chili’s on Friday; seems there is none around where they live and she just wanted to go there.  So now we know another restaurant in Eugene!  She made German puff pancakes for us for breakfast Saturday; it was fun to enjoy the morning together before she had to leave.  She finally got to see our squirrel friends (you have to get up fairly early in the morning to feed them or they go elsewhere).  Thank you for visiting us dear daughter:)!  (If you read the blog...)

We did get together with some of the other senior couples last night for pizza and Apples to Apples.  It is good to get together and we enjoy it.  Sorry no picture, but will probably have one next week.  Love to all....
