Summer Notes...

Thought:  Never forget how much you matter. In God’s eyes, there are no unimportant people, and He wants you to remember your worth. Turn to Him, and allow Him to work miracles in your life.

Birthdays/Anniversaries...no new ones:)

Mission Stuff:  Monday was the first official day for the new Oregon Salem Mission.  In the morning their office was pretty quiet and they were just sort of twiddling their thumbs...we told them not to worry, the work would come.  And it has.  We have fielded lots of phone calls and they are learning their way around all that stuff that needs to be done.  I think most of our missionaries were handling it pretty well; probably for a couple of them it was way hard. I don't know what it is like in other missions - Dad talked with Sara and apparently she never saw her mission president; I'm sure Steve did but I don't know how much or how much of a relationship they had - but President Young has spent countless hours getting to know each and every missionary from before they even arrive and throughout their time here, so most of them are very close to him.  They are awesome missionaries and the work goes on.

I think we have been looking forward to being able to finish giving the Salem office all their stuff and just tend to our own work for awhile, but with all the phone calls it isn't exactly working that way.  In addition, Monday was our transfer day and Dad left around 10 in the morning driving a van of missionaries south and returned after 6.  The other two elders in the office were gone as well, one up in Salem and the other driving a truck and trailer with luggage and bicycles in it for the transfer, so it was "ladies day" in the office:).  Tuesday was departure day and I think we had about 10 leave; Wednesday was arrivals and we had 28 come.  Wednesday was a long day and we were pretty tired by the time we actually fell into bed...Thursday was the 4th - and the office was closed, but most of us came in at one point or another.  We finally went in about 4 and worked until about 6 - then went to see the movie 42.  It is amazing and I think every one of us should see it if you have not.  Kids (probably 8 and up) and adults. Such a history lesson and so many things you can discuss together afterwards! Last night I spent quite a bit of time at home catching up on some things I hadn't gotten to at the office, so I am hoping that I will be in better shape come Monday!  Ha, ha - as if that were possible!

Family Notes:  I have enjoyed seeing Jeanie's Facebook posts about her fun experiences in Oregon and hope you have too.  I talked with Jim, Jr. and he sounded a little lonely without his family - altho he does have the dog:)!  Had a good long talk with Christine and enjoyed that; they are incredibly busy as usual with their summer stuff.  Charlotte had to make several attempts but finally connected with us and I got to visit with her; Dad is actually talking to her now as I am writing this.  Haven't heard a word from Mary - but I think she is preoccupied with Michael being there:).  Very little news from anyone else...maybe more this next week.

OK - now it is Monday evening, kind of late but I am going to try to finish this off.  Yesterday we drove to Roseburg for church (12-3) so I could get my temple recommend renewed.  Since Jeanie was there she came to church too and afterwards we all drove back to Eugene.  I had some chicken in a crockpot to which we added baked beans, corn on the cob, potato salad (not homemade) and eventually a  peach/blueberry cobbler.  It was fun to have the kids here and to visualize how it will be when they come next Saturday/Sunday to stay with us here:)!  Some will sleep on the floor, but they seem to be fine with that.  Church here is at 9 am so it will be interesting to see how well we do with one bathroom for all of us to get ready:).  Unless plans change, Jeanie is going to spend Saturday and Sunday night with us, then come to the office for a little on Monday and maybe do a couple of other things before driving up to Portland and getting a motel/hotel.  Her grandpa is supposed to meet her on Monday so she will get to see him and meet his new friend.

Today seemed ridiculously long and hard...hoping tomorrow is a LOT better!  That's all folks:)!
