Well, here's the news from Wyoming. March was a busy month. Actually, more of just a blurry haze of inactivity for me as I'm trying different medications to help with headaches but not making much progress as of yet. Chris has been busy with farm work and remodeling our main (but very small) bathroom upstairs. Hurrah at last! It's one of those projects that of course grows as you go along. We knew the window had to move a few inches over so the one piece tub/shower wouldn't have to be cut, carefully measured the door width etc. to be sure it would fit in. Went through great troubles special ordering the right tub-to find out it was broken after driving three hours to pick it up, found another and realized the 75 gal. fish tank in the living room was in the way of getting the tub into the bathroom. This is where being married to a farmer (they can fix anything - of course results don't come with guarantee's!) really pays off. Since we already had the window out, Chris just took out the wall and presto, problem solved. He even has the siding already repaired and painted. WOW! The month or more that we were back to just one bathroom (at least toliet/shower) for 8 people made us really appreciate having two. As the downstairs bathroom is right next to our room, I never realized how much late night bathroom traffic there was! Who knew 13 year olds don't wake up enough to avoid very loud and prolonged banging into doors/walls and who knows what all else. Once Chris got the upstairs toliet installed, he and I at least slept a lot better again. The unexpected hazards of remodeling! Hopefully tomorrow the counter top will be poured, Chris can install the faucet and the bathroom will be complete.
OK some more bathroom humor: Chris went in one day to find Becca sitting on the sink. He asked her what she was doing. She replied that she was brushing her teeth and then went on to explain that first she used this one, and then she used this one, and then she used this one and that it was her favorite one. We reminded the other kids that they might want to do a better job keeping their toothbrushes put away when they are through.
The kids (Ammon, Rachel, Mike, John) had a Taekwondo tournament. They all did super. The competition is great but they all got second place (John a first) trophies in their divisions for their poomses (a learned set of movements you do individually) and first (Mike a second) in their sparring. They all seem to love the sport and are getting very good. Its quite impressive to watch them. Melissa had her birthday and is old enough to begin. I didn't think she'd really be interested, but since the tournament she just joined in the class even though we haven't officially signed her up - was waiting for April. The instructor said that was fine so she's a regular now too. The kids had a belt test as well last week - and passed - they are now (except Melissa who is still waiting to earn her white belt) green belts with blue stripes - the last lower belt level. They also participated in the Missoula Children's Theater. It was a funny story based loosely on the Princess and the Pea fairytale. John was the Storm King, Michael was a River Runner, Rachel was a Winter Wind Worker, Ammon a Tree Barker, and Melissa a Dust Bunny. We have the DVD for those of you with an hour to spare...
Melissa is still waiting for her birthday party as I wasn't feeling up to party - we told her when the bathroom was finished we'd have it, so... I'm not sure I'll be able to put her off again. John's birthday was Fri. He was a bit easier as his request was to watch all the StarWars movies - and he didn't think any of his friends would want to join him in that. We've made it through 3 so far. We did send cupcakes for seminary (he's homeschooling now - since Jan.) and did a taekwondo activity and pizza Fri. night as a family.
Chris brought a bull home yesturday, to get friendly with the milk cow. There is a reason you are not suppose to put horses and cows together in small spaces (although they always look just fine together out in fields), and so one half of our dog pen is now a horse pen. More work for Rachel but so far I think its going to work for the next month or so. Its weird to drive by and see the horse in the yard though. Its funny because the bull would put his head down right behind the horse, who would then oblige by repeating kicking the bull in the head (who didn't move). They repeated this over and over - bulls must have thick skulls or he already had brain damage when he arrived. Hope you all are having a great week.
