It has been too long...

So... I thought I would try to get back into putting some notes on the blog. I actually started last week... here is what I wrote on Thursday:

Thursday, July 29, 2010 Time to get back to making notes. Tonight we went to the high school theater to see a BYU Idaho Dance performance. It was very good; made me very sad as it brought back memories of happier days.

Two days ago my new (black) chickens laid their first egg. I now have gotten 3 baby eggs. It is nice to have some hope of getting eggs again; the older ones (turned loose before the reunion) have been giving me 3 eggs a day if I am lucky:).

A couple of weeks before our reunion a robin was building a nest just outside our bedroom window - situated on the curve of the drainpipe just outside the window. By the time we left she had been sitting on her eggs for a while; when we returned there were babies within a day or two. It was really fun to watch her take care of them. (And to be awakened each morning by the twitterings of baby birds welcoming their mom - and I think, Dad)

At the beginning of this week it must have been time for them to leave the nest... we watched a little one hopping around the deck and then sitting up on the back of the iron bench. It was so cute. Koda was right at the screen - waiting for an opportunity to get out. I managed to keep him in (for the entire day), but a few hours later went down to the barn and as I did I noticed that Zaire was under the Suburban eating something. I approached with trepidation - and it did indeed look like she was finishing up the baby bird. Made me sad. When I went back up to the house, there was one little bird still in the nest (originally there were 4) - later I saw one down by the little pond and the mom not too far away; as I watched, the mom seemed to be leading the baby down to the lawn area under the tree. From the twittering sounds that I heard over the next day or so I am hoping that three of the little ones made it and were adjusting to life in the tree. Life is hard. But life is beautiful too... as I was watching the little bird & mom on the patio, there were a pair of brilliantly colored finches playing with the tall grass in the pond, flitting about and having a wonderful time and at the same time a hummingbird was nearby visiting flowers - it was really quite spectacular:).

Yesterday (Sunday) we had a very successful meeting our newly called Young Single Adult Reps which gives me hope for the future - despite the fact that we will lose at least 2 of them in the next couple of months as they go away to school. Our new YSA Advisers gave them some good assignments to get done in the meantime... hope it all works!

I was going to post this stuff last night, but was too tired; then, after we went to bed, for some weird reason could not go to sleep... last time I looked at the clock it was 4:30 a.m. and I was wondering just how I would make it through this day... we will see:). I miss you all so very much ~ wish we could have a family reunion at least every month. Or at least that you all had enough time to call and visit by phone...but I know everyone is very busy doing good things:). Take care of yourselves and give hugs to the grandkids... and take extra good care of the ones "in the oven" as Valerie Beckenhauer puts it:)!!!

Love you,

Mom O
