OK - just to update everyone on where we are at so far...
Jim and Jeanie have booked a flight to Portland and are planning to rent a car, go south to Roseburg to visit for a few days, planning to stay in our Roseburg apartment (the downstairs of the house:) while there. Then, on Thursday, July 5th, drive up to Washington and join the rest of the family.
Christi is planning on driving and bringing 3 to 4 of the kids (Michael, Ammon, Melissa and Rebecca; John has a summer job to help pay for college and Rachel is participating in a national contest in Florida the same dates as the reunion. There is a possibility that Chris will need Michael to stay home and help...so we may lose him too. Christi wants to come to Eugene and see our apartment here and the mission office - so they will stay with us the night of the 4th.
Sara and Patrick have been unable to commit at this point, but we are planning on them making it:)! (And keeping them in our prayers!)
Emily and Adam are planning on coming - I am pretty sure by flying - and bringing Eli:)
Steve and Holly have the honor of having bought the first airplane tickets to come out:)! They are planning on staying in Seattle a couple of extra days to just sightsee.
Charlotte and Seth are planning on being home so that they can entertain the rest of us (I think. Wonder what we do if they decide to disappear...hmmm)
Mary Elizabeth is planning on coming - either by driving herself or catching a ride with someone else...i.e. Christi or Sara & Patrick)
We have the extra house reserved and are keeping it. Initial thoughts for sleeping arrangements are as follows:
Charlotte & Seth's: Charlotte & Seth, US, Christi & kids (Michael, Ammon, Melissa, Rebecca - tho Michael my have to stay home & help on the farm), Mary, Holly & Steve. Mary and Christi can share a bedroom - or Mary can choose to be a couch person, a sleeping-in-the-tent person or...whatever:). Kids are invited (probably not the babies and not Conner) to sleep at Charlotte & Seth's - either outside in a tent or on the floor of the basement. A "Cousins Night" has been suggested (by Em) where they would all stay there that night for sure!
Other house: Jim & Jeanie, Sara & Patrick, Adam & Emily. The fourth bedroom to be for "cousins" (i.e., Taylor, DJ, Colin, Abbey, Payton) with babies sleeping in the rooms with the parents. We need to check the size of the bedrooms to be sure that there is a room for a baby bed (porta-crib, pack 'n play - whatever they are called now) along with whatever furniture they have in there. I will e-mail the owner to get more specifics on the bedrooms.
SO NOW...
1. Your input is needed: what things would you suggest we do or not do and how would you like to help? We will have a devotional planned for Sunday evening...and invite others to take a turn doing a devotional too. (Thursday, Friday or Saturday...take your pick:) Do we want to do T-shirts? or something else? Speak up and please volunteer to be in charge:) We need EVERYONE to plan on helping with clean up Monday morning...my thought is to do breakfast together at the extra house, do our clean up in the two houses and meet back at the park for a sack lunch maybe before departing for home? That is just a thought - share yours!
2. I am posting some of Charlotte's thoughts below; please share your thoughts by e-mail - in a reply to all so that everyone has the opportunity to hear everyone's ideas. We are so excited at the thought of seeing so many of you all together!!!
Love,
Mom & Dad O
From Charlotte: I'm planning on picking up a couple of twin beds or bunk beds or something for at least one of the rooms downstairs before the reunion, and getting a couple of pack 'n plays shouldn't be a problem either. I think it makes sense for people to eat breakfast wherever, and then do lunches and dinners together. I'd vote to keep lunches super simple (sandwiches and such) and take them to one of the parks around--there's a number of fun ones around and some have a good amount of space to play soccer or frisbee or something if people are interested in that. I know Mary wants to do a water-gun war sometime in here, lol.
We will need to sort out who's doing what for meals, but beyond that I don't think there's too much more needed--I'm guessing with people coming in at different times on Thursday we don't want to plan too much since we'll probably just want to sit around and talk anyway, lol. I'm thinking Friday would be a good day to go out to lunch at a park, maybe do the water-gun war Mary was hoping to and hit the drive in theater in the evening? Although it may not be a bad idea to just take dinner with us to the drive in and two picnic type meals in one day might be a bit much. If people would like to go Kayaking, we could do that on Saturday and hang out by the beach, possibly do the bug museum as well for those that are interested? I think Christi and Em are the only ones who I saw a response from as to what they'd be interested in so without having a better idea I don't know what all we want to try to fit in. S'mores at the beach using the houses firepit would be fun for one evening. Hiking could definitely go in there too, or if some of the guys want to play lumberjack I bet Seth would be happy to take them off into the woods to help him chop up trees, lol.
