Tuesday, 9 October 2012 My plan for helping our family stay connected: make paper copies of e-mails and blog and mail to all who have not answered:)
Friday Have moved up to a removable cast - so now I can now take a “shower” (not really, still need to use the bench) without bagging up my leg:)! AND now I can put 50% of my weight on my foot...as long as it doesn’t hurt to do it. We went out to dinner (Olive Garden) to celebrate!
Another week ended at the mission office. We have a new couple - the Terrys. We are really going to enjoy working with them. I want to track the fun and meaningful things we do or that happen in our office...but never get to it during the day and at the end of the day have been so busy that I cannot even remember it all. Or any:( Will try harder.
We’ve enjoyed hearing from Jim and his progress with the Walk Aide. To try to get the insurance to pay for it he had to gather up all his medical info from his former doctor(s) and turn it over to the new one (I think) - the company is being very nice and letting him keep it while the insurance question is being settled. We are praying that all will work out well and that the costs will be covered. It does seem like that is one thing an insurance company would be GLAD to pay for since it results in so many benefits and should allow the person to remain or get a lot healthier than without it (because of the increased ability to exercise). We will see what Medicare says about me:)
Saturday: Charlotte and Emily called today. Sounds like Seth & Charlotte are planning to move to New York State for a couple of months next summer...that should be fun. And, Charlotte is putting together a presentation (???-can’t think of the word for it) to apply for an online job that she can do from home (graphic art stuff I think). Go Charlotte! We are planning right now to be with Charlotte and Seth for Thanksgiving, and probably go down to California to be with Emily and Adam for Christmas week, at least part of it. They are still waiting for stuff to clear so they can get back to the remodeling of their house...the one they hope to be in before Christmas:). Eli got to go to Disney on Ice today - he LOVES Mickey Mouse according to Emily:).
Dad and I went shopping - sort of. Couldn’t get a mobile card at the grocery store I really wanted to go to, tried crutches and a shopping basket at Bi-Mart - that didn’t work so well, so we settled for Fred Myers again and got a mobile cart there. Dad did go to Penneys and got a coat for the winter; he was happy.
John called just as we arrived home and we visited a little on the phone, but since I was trying to get a pizza in the oven and get groceries put away it was a short phone call. It is always fun to hear from him!
Sunday: Time for me to finish up the week and put this on the blog. Church was wonderful today; I am beginning to feel more at home up here. One of our good missionaries has been in our ward for the last couple of weeks and is officially released from his mission tomorrow; it was fun to get to say good bye today, altho we will have the fun of meeting his family tomorrow as they are planning to come into the office before beginning their travels around the mission to see people and places dear to him.
Had a long phone call from Christi; she took her New Zealand mom, Barbara, to the airport this morning in Cody and got her safely on the plane headed for Salt Lake City. It sounds like they had a wonderful visit - the kids had the house all ready, Barbara really enjoyed seeing all of the farm and the equipment...was amazed at the size and scope of it all, never having imagined it as such, then Saturday they went to Yellowstone Park and spent a wonderful day with the wildlife:)! I think it made for quite a week for Christi and Ammon - so many unique experiences! The best news is that Ammon is recovering well from the surgery and seems to be finally free from the intense pain that it brought on - and is fully back at school and doing well.
Just got an e-mail from Jim, Jr. that he had put the Oliphants’ stuff on the blog - so if you haven’t read it already, be sure to keep reading after this one! (Thank You Jim!) I can’t think of much more to add except that I am walking better with the crutches and I thought I would include the following little story - a really good one for me to remember. Attitude IS everything! And, Oh Yes, I am still working on my Conference Resolutions!!!
Here’s the story from a friend about an old lady who wakes up one morning to find only three strands of hair on her head: "Oh my," she said, and after much thought decided, "I guess I will braid my hair today." She did, and enjoyed a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up to find only two strands of hair: "Well," she said after much musing, "I guess I will part my hair down the middle." She did, and basked in the joy of living another day.
The third day she looked in the mirror to find only one hair. After studying that single strand for some time, she said, "I know, I will wear my hair in a ponytail." she did and had such a fun day.
Well, on the fourth day when she looked in the mirror there was no hair at all. "How wonderful," she said, "I have no decision to make on how I should wear my hair today."
Our attitudes and the priority we place on things sure makes a difference, doesn't it?
