Notes for the week past...

Monday:  had a call from Christine; weather is holding and they got the concrete poured for the garage!  Ammon is looking forward to basketball beginning this next week - Grandma is happier with basketball than football:)
Jeanie's Kalua Pig turned out well as they fed friends on Sunday:); she is adding it to her list of crockpot recipes. If you have a very favorite crockpot recipe, send it to her!!!
Long day at the office...came home and slept for an hour on the couch before getting up and putting a dinner on the table.  Feeling a little better now:).  I DID manage to get most of my exercises in this morning - yea me!  Part of the long day at the office was the number of people in the office and a conference call for the vehicle coordinator with Salt Lake about their new system.  He had it on speakerphone so that our new vehicle coordinator (who is training) could hear it too - it was long and loud!  Made it difficult to concentrate on details...  It was good to meet the new couple who will be replacing the Routs.  They are the Kleinmans.

OK - just for fun I decided to look at all of the family blogs; to say it was disappointing is an understatement of great proportions.  It seems to me that SOMEONE should at least make an attempt or two...you know this could be a fun way for everyone to know how everyone is doing:)!

Tuesday note:  I neglected to mention that while I rested yesterday Dad was busy researching how to fix our dryer - which I figured out on Saturday wasn't putting out any heat.  He finally made a trip to Wal Mart and got a $10 multi-meter since his is at home in Roseburg and was able to figure out what part(s) he needed to fix it.  This morning, while he was out doing other errands he picked up the parts and came home and put them in.  Guess that makes us really out of date - instead of throwing away things that don't work he always (or almost always) seems to be able to find a way to make them good again:)! (Except he DID buy a new computer...that is true.)

Yesterday at the office I got the supply order out, which is always a fairly time-consuming task, and then ended up being quite late finishing up the mail...so we took it to the Springfield post office so that it would get out.  They take mail up to 6 p.m, which is a nice back up for me when I run late.  Today I had the mail done early - but then almost forgot that we needed to leave to get it to the closest post office by 5!  Spent a lot of the day working on referrals - and updating our mailing list:).  (That seems to be a continuous task.)  Yesterday we got the Visas for the Gausnells who have been waiting so very long to be off to Australia on their mission.  We called and sang them the birthday song; when Pat said, "But it isn't my birthday" I said, "Oops - we meant to sing "Your visas are here" song...  It was fun and they were VERY excited:).

Today (Wednesday) the office was far more quiet than it has been as the two couples leaving before too long joined up with the missionaries who are leaving in November for a temple trip to the Medford temple, leaving only us and the new couples who are in training there.  I spent much of my day just kind of answering questions around doing my normal duties; it was nice to be a little help to the new ones:).  Another senior couple came in who are teaching a Spanish lady out where they are assigned. (Blue River/ Oak Creek - pretty remote).  They wanted to see how many Spanish materials we might have that they could use - and there was a good amount.  We were standing visiting and I said it was good that the woman they are teaching knows enough English to be able to talk with them.  Then came the following story:   The senior sister said that each time before going out to see this lady she had been praying for the gift of tongues, that they might be able to bridge the language barrier and communicate the gospel to her.  In their most recent visit, the lady said to the elder, "This doesn't happen to me with you Elder, but whenever you talk to me Sister I hear your voice in Spanish.  You probably think I'm crazy."  Sister Boyd, choking up a bit, said, "No, I don't think you are crazy!"  And she shared her prayer with this lady.  And, she said, "As soon as we got home and I got my things put away, I was on my knees thanking my Heavenly Father for this blessing."

Can there be any doubt that the Lord will come to our aid when we are doing His will?  I don't think so:).

We are at home now - managed to make the dinner but now am pooped!

Thursday (yesterday) was pretty much a non-eventful day, except as we rounded the corner to our little street we were greeted with a full carpeting of golden leaves - on the street, the sidewalk, the lawns...it was unbelievably beautiful; I so much wanted Dad to take a picture, but he didn't get around to it.  Sad.  Today was a rather hard day at the office...didn't start out badly, but the noise level increased throughout the day to the point where I just wanted to be anywhere else - of course there is nowhere else to go:(.  Besides the 3 office couples we had one couple in training and multiple phone calls on speaker phone so that the trainees could hear what was going on, plus we had our 2 office elders as well as another elder who will be having surgery on his knee next Monday.  The theory was that we should find work that the elders could help with - so my contribution was going to be to show them how to get the mail done.  About 25% of the way through my instructing, one got called away by someone else to help them, followed by the other being called away by another person....  and there I sat in the middle of a mess.  Because of the noise and confusion it took me most of the next 4+ hours just to get the mail finished.  Sad me.  But, we made it home, took a break and then cleaned out the leftovers in the fridge for dinner. Now we're pretty much set to go visit Washington tomorrow:).  First a stop at the Travel Scoot place and then on to Charlotte's where we hope to have a birthday dinner with her - yes, a couple of days early:).  The plan is to stay through church and lunch on Sunday and then head back to Eugene.  I'll wait 'til  Sunday night to post this - may have another word or two to add:).

Ooops...I should mention that, besides fixing the dryer on Monday, Dad fixed our front porch light so that now it works (yea!) and last night spent a couple of hours installing a new 12 volt battery in the Prius as the old one was beginning to fade away.  (That was NOT good!)  Mr. Fix It has enjoyed his work (and the results) this week:)!!!

Sunday:  We are driving home from Washington, so thought I would record the past couple of days here.  We left fairly early yesterday and arrived in Chehalis on time to meet with the supplier of the Travel Scoot.  Spent a good amount of time in his airplane hangar (he works out of that hangar at the airport there) looking at the Scoot and learning all about how it goes together, comes apart, etc. Dad was thoroughly impressed with the simplicity and the quality of it, a well as the person selling them.  He is an aircraft mechanic & pilot, so is perfect for things mechanical... kind of like Dad is:).   Total weight I think he said was 31 lbs - so it is very light.  Although that is a little like carrying 3 10 pound bags of flour, which is possible, but not my favorite thing to do:).  We took it out the door and I practiced driving it around just a little, making sure I understood the basics.  I didn't spend a lot of time out there because it was COLD.  Back inside the hangar we talked a little more, asked a few more questions, etc. and then paid for it.  Headed up to Washington with it in the back of the car.  We stopped at an Arby's to eat a sandwich and then continued on, arriving at Charlotte's a little past 3.  Got our stuff inside (Dad brought the Travel Scoot into the house and Kuda definitely does not care for it:).  I think she was very glad when Dad took it back outside and put it into the car this afternoon!) and visited a while, then went to the Olive Garden with Seth and Charlotte for her "birthday dinner" - a little early:)  We planned to have dessert, but all were too filled up to do so:(.  Guess it is better to just go for dessert only if you really want one!

Back at their house we visited just a little more; Seth had to work today after all which meant getting up at 4 am, so we did not visit too much together before he headed off to bed.  A little while later Charlotte joined us and we watched Duck Dynasty - first  episode of the second season (Charlotte ended up paying for the second season so we could all do that - but it was a lot of fun to watch) and even watched the last episode of Shark Tank (think I was mostly asleep for that) before giving up and going to bed.

This morning my plan was to get up a little after 7 and take some time for scriptures, etc. I did get up at 7 and went to the bathroom, then lay down planning to get up just a little later.  The next time I pulled my cell phone from under the pillow (yes - it is my alarm clock) it said 9:16.  I was shocked.  We got up quickly, got dressed, Charlotte (who had been up since 4 but had been very quiet) had breakfast ready very quickly and we were soon eating and then leaving for church.  I was a little sad because I had planned to try out the Travel Scoot at church - but decided that I didn't feel comfortable doing that when we were walking in at the last minute thanks to my late awakening!  Church was awesome: they had a full house - at least partly because it was the Primary program, which was great.  I have a hard time watching Primary programs because of the memories and how very much I miss that period of my life (having kids in the program); I carry on quite a conversation with myself telling myself to stop it and appreciate the blessings I have.  My head knows what is right, my heart just has a little trouble cooperating with my head.  Sunday school was very good and I was reminded once more (seems like the Lord has given me a LOT of those reminders lately) of how important it is to really work on our family history.  I have the desire, just have to manage the energy to work on it at the end of the work days.  Then came Relief Society - which was beautiful.  The lesson was drawn from a talk by Elder L. Whitney Clayton of the presidency of the Seventy, called "Marriage: Watch and Learn"

As our instructor proceded with the lesson, doing a great job, she reached a point where she shared her personal experience of having lived the counsel in that talk after going through a very difficult period in her own marriage.  There is so much in it; much for all of us to internalize, married or not, but especially if we are married.  I am going to print it off with my highlights of what I need to remember most for me when I get home:).  I felt the Spirit strongly during that  hour:).

Back at Charlotte's we had a great lunch that she prepared for us; made several calls to see if by chance Seth would be through early and could join us, but finally gave up on that and enjoyed the good food.  Afterwards visited just a little before packing up and heading out for Eugene.  We are blessed by beautiful sunshine, glorious sunshine after a week of mostly cloudy skies and it looks like it might last for a couple of days although I looked and the temperatures are predicted to get much colder.

Family Notes:  Besides the call from Christi early in the week I was happy to talk with John B. once; he sounded good and was looking forward to being with the family for this weekend - especially for Becca's birthday.  Jim Jr. called us last night while we were out to dinner so I missed that call, but called him back as we headed back to Charlotte's and we all had fun (in the car) listening to the story of his latest automobile acquisition:  a hybrid, as he put it.  He said (for the ???th time) that this is his last car for a long time...but we have heard that story before...so I guess we could have a family wager on how long he will be able to keep that vow:)!  Oh - what kind of a hybrid?  Turns out it is a Toyota Avalon... but you really should call and hear the whole story!

I know that Emily called and missed me too - don't quite know why that is happening as I try to keep my purse and phone with me as much as possible - and I did not get back to her, so I am sad about that.  Christi tried multiple times last night and then this morning (we were in church this morning so I didn't answer then) - and the  voice message was there from last night, but my phone did not register a missed call  - which is kind of what we discovered was happening with my calls to Sara.  Hmmm.  Anyway, Christi had a lot of newsy things to share and Becca shared her Thank You for her birthday present.  Sounds like they are really under the gun trying to beat a storm predicted to hit there tomorrow - hard to get crops in and hard to have their remodeling go forward, but we're praying for both.

I think I am about typed out, so am going to quit and maybe sleep for awhile in the car:).  Happy Birthday Charlotte tomorrow and Happy Birthday Chris (Nov. 5th).  That's all for now:).
