Travel Notes:)!

OK - haven't blogged for awhile, so thought I should at least add my travel notes.  Not without mentioning our significant days...

16 May 2014     Emily & Adam's Anniversary  AND the arrival of Anslee Gwen Oliphant:)!
26 May 2014     Michael Bullinger's graduation from High School!  (which is why we are making our way to Wyoming as I write this.

The last week or so was spent in seemingly endless sorting & packing of boxes, broken only by a time or two that I got to go out with the sister missionaries (much enjoyed) and we did have them come out for dinner (mostly a combination of left overs that I was trying to get out of the refrigerator) - on Monday night which we all enjoyed.  Wonderful girls!  Now, Dad has been working on outside things and his garage; the new sump and sump pump just about did him in and he finally left it to finish when we get back.  He's been walking like an old man - which worries me since he is the one driving these many miles, but he says he will be OK.  Your prayers would be appreciated.

OK - on to the travel:  Thursday, May 22, 2014 Traveling in the motor home towards a campground in West Yellowstone which will be our stopping place for the night. We are on our way to Wyoming for Michael’s high school graduation and a visit with Christine’s family. Just finished going through 2 large plastic storage boxes holding things I have saved from Christine’s childhood & growing up.  Mostly papers, but some pictures.  My hope was to go through, organize and perhaps eliminate a goodly portion of it; I did organize in a manner of speaking...but eliminated very little.  Hoping perhaps to spend time with Christi and Rachel while we are there and that between the two of them we will be able to decide what to keep and what to get rid of.  At ay rate, I will not be bringing the boxes home with me.  6 more to go.  I cried when I finished.  I was so unprepared to be a mother, at least the mother I wanted to be.  I think I have gotten better, but I wish with all my heart that I had been better with my older kids.

Yesterday we got a fairly good start to our travel, leaving home about 9 am or so.  But, as we approached Rice Hill, Jim realized he did not have his glasses.  In fact, he had left them on the fender of the tow-dolly (which tows the Prius) and realized they had probably fallen off as he headed down our road.  Bad thought.  We pulled off in Rice Hill and he took the Prius off the tow dolly and headed back to the house.  Called me a goodly time later to tell me he had found them as he walked from the mailbox up to the house looking for them on the road.  He had driven over them, which bent the left part of the frame outward a little, but the rest of the frame and lenses were fine.  That was a blessing!  By the time he got back to me and the motor home, loaded up the Prius and we started out again it was probably between 10:30 and 11.

So - off we went again until we stopped in Eugene at Rainbow Optics to have them try to fix them.  They did - no charge; we love that place!  Off we went again, now a little past noon.  Ah well - only 8 to 10 hours of driving ahead of us still.  When I plugged in a device Jim had bought to be able to charge the cell phones while we are driving, there was a spark and the radio quit working.  That resulted in a couple more stops - and some research into the booklets that came with the motor home to try to figure out what was going on.  In other words, we had a day of many delays.  The driving was nice though - beautiful scenery and little traffic.  Makes me want to re-think using freeways in the future; maybe those 2 lane roads are not so bad!  Finally made it to the campground in Vale, Oregon about 10:30 p.m.  A little late for me after the early morning wake up call and trying to get on the road early.  Guess it is good we did - or we might not have even made it to the campground:)!  At that point Jim discovered that not only did the radio system not work, but neither did the pull out, nor the leveling system.  Went to bed.  We survived and really enjoyed not getting up until about 7 this morning.

At that point Jim went back to researching our problems and trying to find the fix - which, ultimately, he did!  So today all our equipment is working and the cell phones are even charging:).
