Wow - doesn't seem like just 3 days since I wrote last...feels like at least a week:). We arrived at the campground in Island Park, Idaho before it was dark on Thursday night. West Yellowstone was about 20 miles ahead of us and the plan was to continue through Yellowstone on Friday and down to Christine's. When Dad went into the office at the camapground the lady circled an RV spot on their little map, but then circled a different one that she said was "better." Well, it was nicer in the sense that it had more trees around it, but the trees also made it rather narrow...so after pulling into it as far as he felt was possible (without the trailer and car hitting a tree), Dad finally got out, took the car off the trailer and parked it elsewhere, then disconnected the trailer and moved it, then finished pulling into the spot - which was still a challenge because another little tree really cramped him on the driver's side. He was not very happy after the long day of driving to do all of that when he had specifically asked for a spot where we would not have to disconnect the trailer. And, truthfully, the spot WAS long enough - just not wide enough because of the trees. No way to put out the pull out, which really wasn't a big deal...but. We had a good night's sleep and the surroundings were beautiful - quite a bit of snow on the ground around us:). Turns out that everything was opening for the season on Friday, so we were 1 day early:).
We got a good start the next morning and enjoyed a leisurely drive through Yellowstone, using roads that took us around most of the biggest attractions so we really had a minimum amount of delay because of people on the roads. I loved just driving through...it was beautiful. And, I decided the West entrance to the park is "friendlier" - much closer to the gate compared to the mileage we had to drive when we stayed outside the east entrance for our reunion. Leaving the park we passed the Pahaska Teepee lodge, bringing back fun memories of our time there:). We needed to do a little shopping, get gas, mail a bill and hopefully get a light lunch when we made it to Cody...got the gas first, then were able to do the rest in Wal Mart:). Not my favorite store actually, but felt it a blessing to actually accomplish all our little needs with a single stop. Afterwards we headed down the last leg to Christi's - and discovered there IS a road that makes us rattle and shake more than I5 as we headed to Emily's:). It is the road through Burlington. Dad says next time we will do the extra miles and go through Otto:)!
It took us awhile to get all moved around in a spot we could stay - which was quite boring to the kids who came out anxiously to greet us - but we finally did it and now sit in front of their addition, which is quite a project...right now they are cooking in the old kitchen, but eating/living in the new room over the new garage...lots of closed off spots. Very interesting and it will be a MUCH larger home when finished:)! You are all invited for a reunion here:). Yesterday the kids had lamb weigh in - but ended up having to trade lambs because of low weights, so that took some time; they also did a dog clinic - shades of life at home some years ago:)! The little girls were getting into some disagreements in the afternoon over their charge to clean their room, so their grandma suggeted if they got the assigned part done before my timer went off, we would watch a movie together - Pollyana. Of course I didn't have it, so we managed to get it from Amazon. That movie is over 50 years old and it is STILL a GOOD movie:)! Poor Chris came in from his farmwork and was a little dismayed to find his whole family out here in the motor home watching the movie instead of having the table set and ready to serve dinner...Made me feel bad, that I had done him a disservice, so I am going to try to be more careful for the remainder of our time here:)!. We did have some awesome thunderstorms yesterday - fun.
Today (Sunday) we left for church a little past 8:30 (didn't make our goal for that one). Christi had fixed awesome french toast for everyone beforehand. Church was great; I love coming here for church...and today they had a senior couple talking about their mission in Africa from which they recently returned. Again, confirming the need in the church for way more senior missionaries. Even more special today was Michael being ordained an elder. So now this family has 3 Melchezidek priestholders:)! We came home and had a yummy dinner plus visit with Chris' mom - who remembers well her encounter with Jim, Jr. in the Nauvoo temple on their mission:). Afterwards, Christi served strawberry shortcake while we were watching the DVD of The Other Side of Heaven. I still think it is a wonderful movie and was happy to see everyone in the family enjoying it with us. At first this morning I could not find it and so had looked online to see if there were any other way to get it for today (answer - no) but discovered a conference talk from 2004 by John Groberg - the main character in the movie - while he was in the presidency of the Seventy... didn't know that before. And, I downloaded the conference talk because it is almost as good as the movie:). AND was super relieved when we finally found the DVD I had brought:)!
Came out and took a nap, then decided to write a bit here...not exactly sure of all that is planned for tomorrow except a Memorial Day picnic at the church and Michael's graduation in the evening. Of course, that is plenty. Guess I will sign off for now...not expecting anything too momentous for the remainder of the week, but if something comes up, I will let you know:). It was neat to see that Jim and Jeanie and family were again participating in the Carry the Load event to honor our servicemen, but particularly their friend Bill. Hoping it goes well for all of them and appreciate their sacrifice to do it! Love to all:)
