Friday, 2/6/15 On Wednesday we settled on a couch - of sorts - and chair. Special ordered; supposed to take 6 to 8 weeks. Either the day before or after we ordered 2 bookcases - seems weird given how many we have, including ones not being used, but we needed one to fit in the closet of the office bedroom and another to use in the family/tv room by my desk. They should arrive next Tuesday/Wednesday I think. Also looked at buffets - sort of back to one we found that is quite lot like the one we have; ;it is to give me space for the stuff I used to keep in the cabinets above the kitchen counter between the dining table and kitchen area - mostly china.
Tuesday evening met the stake president and got the official call for Jim to serve as the ward financial clerk/secretary. Should be sustained/set apart on Sunday.
Sunday, 2/8/15 Busy day. Jim was sustained in sacrament meeting and set apart later in the afternoon at the stake center. He got to stay after church and learn some of what the financial clerk does:) I went to the ward choir practice (second time:) - we’re singing in ward conference next Sunday. Later I went to the stake choir practice - we are singing at the women’s conference a week from this coming Saturday. I think 2 on the same day kind of did me in and now I am very tired. Talked to Emily to see how she is doing after her procedure to clear her sinuses and get rid of the mass infection; she says she is good. Praying that this all works!
Friday, 13 Feb. 2015 Hard to think the week has nearly passed and I have written nothing:(. On Monday Jim went to the temple and helped with cleaning for the morning, then had other stuff in the afternoon and had to be in Provo at 5 to meet with the Oliveiras, our cleaning people for the office building. I was able to make a meal for a family in need and with the help of a young woman who lives nearby was able to deliver it just before 5. Had to go to the store earlier - all on my own (first time) in order to have everything for the meal, and was happy to accomplish that with no problem. Serving in the mission office for 2 years and having Jim drive me everywhere has left me feeling way too dependent; I am hoping to break out of that and do more on my own little by little here - even though it IS a busy city with lots of traffic. I can learn to live in a city I think:). It felt good to be able to provide that small service:).
I think we were both tired that evening; I know from the ward bulletin that there is a FHE group for empty nesters and hope to join with that before too long...
Don’t remember much of Tuesday, but Jim went to the church in the evening (7pm) to do stuff, thinking it would take about an hour. About 11:15pm I decided to call, beginning to worry a little...but he said he had “just finished” - and came home about ten or fifteen minutes later. Learning and adjusting to his new calling:). Mutual kids had come by earlier collecting food for the food bank - that had been announced in church, but I had forgotten...when I opened the door I discovered them AND a large box, containing the cabinet we ordered to hold DVDs, videos, etc. If they had not come we might not have found it for days...we tend to go in and out the garage door, not the front:).
Wednesday we got up and going a little early so that we could meet the carpet cleaner in Provo at 9am, but before we had been gone long we got a call that he had a problem because he had a sick daughter and the day care wouldn’t take her. Ended up re-scheduling for 4 pm; came back and worked on more “stuff” then left about 2:45 - went to the building first for Jim to put in new soap dispensers, then down to Sara’s to give her a hug and leave tiny valentines for the kids plus took her some chicken tortilla soup that I had made for our lunch so she could have it for dinner if she wanted - or later, then back to the building to meet with the carpet cleaner...by the time we got home we were somewhat tired but went to work on putting CDs, DVDs, videos, etc. into the new cabinet. It holds a lot - and I thought we had succeeded in getting everything into it, but found another group I had forgotten about, so need to go back and try to figure that out.
While working on that, a group of women from the ward came to give me a “welcome” - they brought a bunch of gifts, all kinds of things, and there was a 3x5 card from each one with name, address, phone and e-mail on it, sort of a getting to know you thing. We enjoyed visiting for quite a while before they finally departed. Then, not much later, the doorbell rang again and it was another sister from across the street who had had to pick up her sister at the airport and had not been able to get here with the others - she brought a homemade pancake mix, plus homemade “buttermilk syrup”:) We enjoyed visiting with each other and I found out she teaches a preschool for 4 year olds in her home. Just across the street from me:). It was a fun evening and I am overwhelmed by the creativity and generosity of the gifts...I feel truly “welcomed.”
Yesterday morning (Thursday) Jim got tied up on the phone in a supreme effort to get our phones to stop ringing simultaneously. Turns out we both had the same Apple ID which was our e-mail and of course we just have the same e-mail address. After an hour or two they went to helping him set up a new e-mail to use for the Apple ID, but even that seemed to have problems. I think they finally got it all straightened out, but only twenty minutes or so before a Medicare Insurance agent was supposed to stop by. He ended up late, which was probably good because it gave a few minutes reprieve, but then he was here for several hours, which mostly used up the day. When he left I was able to go online and print my ordinance request sheet for three sealings which I had been working hard to reach the point of being able to do, and then we left shortly afterwards for a ward sealing session at the temple - first time we had ever been a part of something like that. It was good. We stopped at a burger king and got a hamburger on the way home and then just watched TV and ate them.
Today (Friday) Jim has an appointment at the VA, but it takes 45 minutes or more to get there, so he will leave at 1 and hopefully be home about 4. We will see. I am going to work on the multitudes of things glaring at me here - all shouting do me, do me, do me! Having a hard time organizing my mind around all the stuff that needs doing... my mind is brought back to a RS lesson recently where the sister leading the lesson talked of the woman annointing Christ with the every expensive oil and his reply to those who criticized her because it could have been sold and the money given to help the poor, “Let her alone....She hath done what she could....” Those words, “she hath done what she could” show that He knows what we are capable of and when we do that, He accepts it. So I will continue, to do what I can.
Saturday. Full day; got up early to be ready for Sara to drop off Payton and Jocee for the day. Tried to get some of the normal things done, but didn’t do so well...kept getting distracted:). Went to the Red Iguana where we met Michael and Mary for Lunch; expensive but it was our birthday present to Michael, whose birthday was this past Wednesday, but he had to work then. We had planned to go grocery shopping, but instead came home with M&M and visited a little until they had to leave because she had to work tonight. Then we took Payton and Jocee to a park to play a little and thought we would go do grocery shopping, at least a little, before coming home. Instead Jocee had to go to the bathroom and the park restrooms were locked, so we came on back, stopping by the Post Office first. Good thing we did - because Sara and Patrick arrived shortly after we got back...so we said goodbye to the girls and are re-grouping. I think grocery shopping will be on Monday:).
