On Our Way to San Diego

I went to the temple yesterday:). First time this year - between trips to Texas, Utah & Wyoming, heart problems, surgery, & then surgery problems we just had not managed to get to the temple. When I told Dad I wanted to go to the temple on our way to San Diego, I think he was a little shocked, but since we have the driving divided into 3 days, it worked!

Oh what a blessing it was! I felt so happy to be walking up to the door (walking stick in hand) past the beautiful flowers and then into the House of the Lord. My gratitude increased as I was able to be ready in time for the session we were trying to make. It increased even more as we progressed through the endowment session. The name of the person I was going through for was Sara - that kind of made it even more special.

As we neared the end of the session and I was at the veil, as I tried to speak the words of my last response I found myself in tears as the import of those words and what they mean to me and my family pierced my heart. I am sure the temple workers were a little unsure of what to do for me (nothing) and actually the tears were tears of joy and gratitude, so nothing was needed (except a kleenex later).

As we stood in the prayer circle surrounding the alter and the officiator referred to the names on the temple prayer roll, I could not help but think of those dedicated temple workers and patrons who are now unable to attend the temple due to age, infirmity, or illlness - a state I have been in for the last 7 months. I could not hep but think of how much we take for granted... like being able to walk without stumbling or falling, being able to walk without assistive devices, being able to breathe without pain, being able to lie in a bed at night without pain, having a voice with which to communicate, being able to sing the hymns of Zion, having strength to stand, having the energy to work and accomplish small tasks, living in a country where we may worship as we please, ... having a temple recommend, having a temple within just a few hours or less. I cannot help but think of what those who went before us had to go through so that we can be so blessed and I pray that each member of this family will come to understand how very blessed we have been and commit to not taking those blessings for granted.

Tonight we are in Coalinga - motel 6. Taking our time, doing all my exercises, etc.. before we take off each morning. Looking forward to visiting with Adam, Emily and Eli:) tomorrow and... Dad's helicopter training on Saturday and his 50th high school reunion dinner that night.

Love you all forever, Mom O
