Mission Notes: Sept.2,2012

Sunday, 2 September 2012 Well, thought I should write just a bit about the week past.  I spent the first part of the week getting the supplies boxed and ready for the Zone Leaders to pick up this coming Tuesday after Zone Council meeting.  Also worked on trying to be in contact with the Relief Societies providing lunches at the upcoming zone conferences. Hopefully this Tuesday I will be able to get the confirmation letters out to them and feel like I am in better shape.  Thursday we got the mail out right before needing to leave for the Senior Couples Conference.  This conference was a good thing for me; it is good for us to get together - we have similar feelings, frustrations, etc.  There were some very good questions and discussion which were helpful to all - even us “office folk.”  The conference was Thursday afternoon and Friday morning; we had dinner together, then breakfast and lunch on Friday.  I have been working on my brownie recipe to turn it into caramel pecan brownies...and they turned out pretty good this time.  I used real caramels and I am afraid that is the real secret to it; I have tried a couple of different caramel sauces but they just don’t work.  I guess I am lazy and I just don’t like unwrapping and melting the caramels...it takes a lot of them!

When the conference ended on Friday we went back to the office - got there before the mail arrived and were able to get that all done and out the door before leaving, which was good since it is a 3 day weekend (Labor Day).  We drove down to Roseburg afterwards, stopping in Cottage Grove to pick up some Kentucky Fried Chicken to take to Franz Walner’s home for the empty nester dinner at 6:30.  It was fun to see a few people from the ward; it was disappointing that more were not there, but that is how it goes.  We ate outside and the weather turned quite cool so people left early, so that was disappointing too.  Spent the night in our basement - doesn’t really feel like home anymore.  Had planned to maybe go visit people on Saturday, but decided to head for Eugene instead.  Went to church today; am beginning to feel a little more like I belong there:).  Tomorrow we think we will drive to the coast just for fun...so I will have to write about that later.

I did take a few pictures today - of my gardening efforts.  Will try to re-learn how to put them from the camera to my computer and then add them here...maybe tomorrow:).  Sure do miss all my children and gratefully appreciate any news received from them:)!!!  Oh yes...we've been asked to speak in Sacrament Meeting next Sunday:  Me on the Plan of Salvation; Dad on Sharing the Gospel.  That should be interesting.
