Hello to all. We have had a quick trip to Utah...left Wednesday morning at 6 a.m., got to Provo about 10:00 p.m. Mary and Michael came over and saw us at the motel for a few minutes; it was great to see them and to get some hugs, but we were pretty tired so said good night fairly soon.
Thursday morning started with early meetings having to do with our building on Freedom Blvd. Things seem to be going well there, but we were very glad to be in town when we were; Smith's is building a gas station on property that adjoins ours, but just a very tiny part of ours. We had been informed by the secretaries in the Insurance agency (main floor of the house on our property) that the contractors had torn up bushes and plants, broken concrete, used our water for several hours to wash off their trucks in our parking lot, etc., so we were determined to get to the bottom of everything, and we did. Turns out there are 2 projects going on at the same time, one of which is the owner of the vacan lot next door to us is putting in a used car sales lot there. We were able to meet with him and resolve our issues and are hoping that all will go well from this time forward. We also met with a new tenant (as of Oct. 1) - at least she will be if she gets all the papers in. Seems to be a litle scatterbrained, but maybe will work out OK, and have at least made a commitment with another new tenant - who is also supposed to get his papers to us by Oct. 1. That is all very nice and if it goes well will mean we will have lost no income on two of our offices as old tenants moved out. It was a little surprising to see how many responses we had on our Craig's list ads:) Worked well - we think:) We were able to see Sara, Patrick, Abby and Payton for a brief period at lunchtime; our time wasn't what we had hoped for because Sara had to take Jacks (their dog) to the vet and the only time they had was at 11 a.m. We adjusted and enjoyed our brief time together.
Friday was devoted to Alpine Village stuff - & more meetings. Things are definitely improving greatly as to the overall complex and how things are being run; hopfully it is not coming too late for us. We desperately need more tenants - or someone who wants to purchase either individual units or the whole thing (highly unlikely with the market & economy as it is). If you would like to include us in your prayers in that regard, perhaps that would help:)
After business stuff we prepared to go to Mary's graduation; Steve and Holly met us at our motel and we headed off to Universtiy Mall and the Woodbury Art Center - where the graduation was to be. Sara, Patrick, Abby & Payton were to join us a little late because Sara's lessons ended at 6 and the graduation started at 6:30. They soon arrived, but received a phone call from their barn saying that Jacks appeared to be going into shock. Patrick left to take the dog to the vet, Sara and girls stayed with us for the graduation and we enjoyed watching the different girls present their "models" (Mary used her roommate, Dana). Unfortunately Mary still has another month of working very long and demanding hours to finish up - but she is working very hard at it. We took LOTS of pictures - but they are all on Holly's camera, so I am hoping she will share them with me and then we can share some with everyone else:) We were so glad to be able to be there with Mary for this time:)!
After the graduation we went over to Wallaby's spot at Alpine Village (Dad & I had tried them the night before & the food was very good) to eat dinner. Sara had been in touch with Patrick and they had decided to do surgery on Jacks to see if they could find the problem (a hard decision because of the large expense involved); eventually Patrick joined us and we were able to send them home with a dinner in his hand. Later I had a very sad phone call from Sara, and Abby, because Jacks was gone. He had a very large tumor in his stomach which had spread throughout his intestines; according to Sara, the vet said that it was a very painful cancer and Sara was just amazed at how gentle Jacks had been with the rough handling of kids right up to the very end. They have lost a very special part of their family and will miss him greatly. It was a very sad ending to an otherwise good trip.
Dad & I got up early this morning, but decided to go out to Sara's for hugs before leaving for good; then stopped at Steve & Holly's to pick up Dad's birthday card from Emily (Thank you, Em). Dad has always enjoyed driving - but I'm not sure 15 hours from Utah to Oregon is really his idea of how to spend his birthday. True to form, he has not complained:)
I know everyone is busy - but, if you have a moment, update the blog so we can all hear what you are busy with:)
Love you much,
Mom O
