More from Wyoming

Well, another busy week. Highlights include Rachel is finished with physical therapy - Yeah! Now if she will just continue her exercises at home... We did our first dog 4-H meeting (I am a leader) but just one person showed up - oh well. At least the kids worked their dogs. Michael gets his cast off next Thurs. Hurray! Sat. was busy. First we (not Becca and Melissa) worked at Habitat for Humanity and finalized Michael's eagle project. Then we went river rafting in Cody. It was fun but we definitely got swamped a few times. Chris couldn't come and Michael just put a plastic sleeve (for showering) over his cast - and did manage to keep it dry. The large guy sitting next to Ammon got thrown out of the raft but fortunately Ammon was thrown backward into the raft from a certain set of waves which was fortunate as it was a very dangerous place to go into the river. But we impressed out guide - the guy was able to grab the raft (and keep his paddle), we got him back in and just had time to row enough (see-paddle was a good thing to keep) to avoid the rock that created a current that would suck the whole raft under if we hit. It set up a cycle there that if you go under, it throws you back up and then pulls you under again - term we learned as "Maytagging" from the guide. It was fun though and Michael kept asking how many more rapids there were - plenty! As soon as we got home, Rachel and I left again with her horse to drop it off at a trainer's in Powell. Rachel is at music camp all this week at the community college in Powell and will go work with her horse when I pick her up after camp each day. Hope everyone had a Happy Father's Day!!! That reminds me - we are now in the beef business. The dairy cows took a huge hit - the farm is loosing lots of money on the ones going out and haven't brought any more in for the past several months so there are lots of empty pens. Chris was working to raise heifers on contract for a dairy in Idaho but that keeps getting delayed on the Idaho end so Chris has been looking at raising some beef cows in the feedlot. He figures they could do three groups a year so the turn over is lots better than waiting 18 months and carrying a loan that period on the dairy heifers. Chris was a bit surprised to get a call Saturday that his buyer had three trucks of (older) calves arriving Sun. Excited to give it a try (need money) but usually they try hard to avoid trucks coming on Sunday and he had to give up his afternoon to get them unloaded. So it was a mixed Father's Day. The kids did fix eggs and sausage for breakfast - the sausage was really good. Have a great week! Christine
