OK... haven’t had a lot of ideas yet from the rest of you, so I am sharing what I’ve had and hoping you will let me know if you like/dislike, want to change, etc.
Check in time at the Campground on Friday is 3 p.m. My guess is that if we start showing up around 2:30 we should be OK; even if they won’t let us check in we can sort of scout the place out, visit, etc. Dad and I will plan on being there by that time.
FOOD
Because we are down to 2 days, with a check in time of 3 p.m. and a checkout time of 11 a.m., that changes our needs for meals. Here is my suggested modification to the original list*:
*my plan is for Dad and I to step in if Seth and Charlotte end up unable to come; we will also be available for any other help you would like, and can bring Oregon stuff if you want it.
Friday: Lunch: Cancel? since check-in is 3 p.m. - everyone is on their own for lunch. If you will be in the Provo area by lunch time and want to join together with others of us who are there, let me know and we will certainly stay in touch with you about what we are doing.
Dinner: Adam, Emily + Steve & Holly
Saturday: Breakfast: Chris, Christine + John, Mary O.
Lunch: Sara & Patrick; Charlotte & Seth - or Mom & Dad?
Dinner: on the Hay Train excursion (BBQ Beef, Dutch Oven potatoes, pasta salad, drinks & dessert
Sunday:
Breakfast: Sara, Patrick + Charlotte & Seth?
Lunch: Steve, Holly, + Emily & Adam - cancel? or move to S LC? (Because we have to be out of the campground by 11.)
NOTES: I have found out that the cabin kitchens have NO dishes, utensils, etc.; just stove, refrigerator, etc. I think I have plastic plates, bowls and eating utensils that would serve for the small number of meals we are having. Because drinks are something that people tend to do a lot of, and the weather may be hot, I personally think it would be a good thing for everyone to bring their own plastic mug or glass to use for their drinks. There will be unlimited (pretty much) hot cocoa packets, so if you bring a mug that can do either cold or hot, you will be prepared for cold or hot.
Meals: If you will talk with the others assigned to the meal(s) that you are assigned to and come up with a definite plan for what you want to make for that meal and let me know, we can coordinate bringing the necessary cooking/serving pans/utensils, etc. for the meals that will be made. So - maybe e-mail me as soon as you have decided? (That would be appreciated:)
Breakfasts: IF someone is interested, I can bring my two belgian waffle makers to help with waffles for one of the breakfasts. ALSO - I have recently found/used a recipe for something called “Migas” - a sort of Mexican omelette combining eggs, corn tortillas, cheese, & a bunch of other things. We were amazed at how good it is and I would be happy to bring and share. For anyone who cannot eat eggs (Sara + ??), there would need to be other breakfast alternatives. I could bring Oregon fresh eggs from home... I think:)
Lunches & Dinners: the only thing I think I have to say is that Holly and I have talked and would like to have a bonfire (campfire) on Friday night... with s’Mores. (I know that is an “extra” - but you might want to consider that in your dinner planning...)
Things I am thinking to bring are: croquet, badminton, wiffle balls & bats from home; it says they have a volleyball area, but we don't have a volleyball - but Holly has suggested she would look for a beach ball for that - an idea I like a LOT better:)! She also suggested they could bring water balloons... :) We will also bring a couple of games for inside - Mexican Train and Bananagrams... and I hope someone will bring the game we played at Christi’s over Christmas, that Charlotte did NOT give to us - because I told her we didn’t do much game playing: (shame on me!) - but it was a lot of fun and I think everyone would enjoy it.
I also have a SECRET something I am bringing to have a contest with. There will be PRIZES!
On the subject of COMPUTERS and CELL PHONES.... it would be VERY NICE if we all put those away and did not let them interrupt our family time. We lived for years without them... surely we could live for a couple of days without them? I would refer you to Elder Bednauer’s talk that I sent you a note about a month or two ago.
BUT.... perhaps for Saturday morning we could divide up into groups... a kid’s fishing group + a couple of GUYS to help them out? A ladies blogging group (where Holly would instruct us on getting blogs set up and using them) and a genealogy group (where Chris and/or Christi would share an online genealogy service that they have access to for this year.) Other ideas are welcomed and encouraged:) Of course those would require computers.... so they would be “legal” for that time period:)
And...here’s a thought for SATURDAY afternoon.... a talent show has been suggested; having just heard the results of the 4-H Presentation Contest in Bason, Wyoming, I have asked the Bullinger kids to come prepared to do their presentations for the family:) I know Abby just had a dance recital... so perhaps she could dance for us... and who knows what else. Steve and Mary could play their violins for us - since Mary is picking hers up soon and taking it back to practice:) AND... maybe I can bring my new little keyboard... and play a song for all:) (Dad may object if it takes up too much room... we will see. Of course, Saturday evening will be the train ride, hay wagon ride and BBQ.
Going BACKWARDS... to FRIDAY afternoon/evening... we could have “arrival and get set up” time; games outside; dinner, bonfire & s’Mores and if you would like... a movie inside to close out the evening? (I have one I would like to bring...) Again... Other ideas are welcomed and encouraged:)
Jumping FORWARD - over Saturday to SUNDAY - of course we have to check out so we will need to pack up.... I thought perhaps we could have breakfast about 9:30-ish, then pack the cars and head into Heber and attend Sacrament meeting together as a family. I called the main Heber stake center and was told there are 4 stakes! (That is so hard for me to imagine...sitting here in Oregon:) I was told that probably all the wards are on the same schedule or similar to theirs: .... Sacrament meeting at 9, 11, or 1. Do you think we could make an 11:00 one?
I am not sure how or what to do for lunch... I know Chris and Christi have to leave by noon; not exactly sure what other schedules are. Those available could maybe join together for lunch at the park near Steve and Holly’s apartment? PLEASE let us know how you feel about these plans. Please? Anyway - it all sounds like a lot of fun to me... hopefully to you too:)
Love to all from me... Mom O. (And I hope to hear your opinions & ideas about all of this!!!)
Sara can't eat eggs?
