NOTES from TREASURE VALLEY...

Friday, June 12, 2009 YEA!!! Whoo Hooo!!! For the first time in ?? months I can (& just DID) dust mop my entire wood floor without having to go around boxes and bags of stuff waiting to be gone through:)! Wow... I finally accomplished something that actually shows.

Sunday, June 14, 2009 Wow. Yesterday felt like a marathon. We started early in the morning gathering & sorting the sheep/lambs, then took the lambs to the buyer out Diamond Lake Blvd. We picked out 2 to keep and add to the flock, plus Suzanne picked one that she wants to butcher and have the hide tanned. (Sounds like me a goodly number of years ago....which is how we came to have the lambskin in the family room.) So that meant 8 left. We got $.98/lb for them, which was a really good price. And - just as at the lamb show - we were told we had really nice lambs. We did. I wish we could just keep them all and have a large sheep herd roaming the property... but guess I have to admit the impossibility of that; we have a hard enough time just taking care of what we have:) It did make me very sad for Mudd's lamb to have to leave; it made Mudd very sad too:(

After delivering the sheep, we picked up feed for the animals, came home & unloaded. We also got an e-mail at that time that ended up taking almost the entire remainder of the day to resolve (family stuff & Alpine Village); however, we put it aside for an hour or so and went to the UPS store to mail stuff, then to Sherms to see their Koi and Watergarden show. It was interesting; got to watch and listen to a judge judging Koi... we decided we are NOT going into the Koi show circuit:) (It was a lot like horse judging...) Then got a few groceries and headed home. That is when the work started....we finished up about midnight and I was feeling really bad for Dad; he was speaking in Sutherlin Sunday and had planned to use at least part of his day Saturday to prepare his talk. I know he was up by at least 5:30 Sunday working on it, perhaps earlier.

My “accomplishment for the day” Saturday was I took my very first picture with my cell phone. Wasn’t that hard:) So now, I want to see if I can get my cell hooked up to my laptop via bluetooth and move a picture from the phone to the laptop... if I get that figured out I will feel very accomplished:)! (And... maybe it will inspire me to actually use my real camera too and put pictures from home on the blog?)

I hesitate to put this on the blog right now because of so few comments on the Family Reunion update; I don’t want to obscure that because I think it is important... so maybe I will just keep writing for a few days on my Notes sheet here and post later....

Later... Sunday was a loooonggg day. Started early with Dad getting up to work on his talk and I ended up making cookies because I realized that we had forgotten to stop and get some (my original plan) when we took the weekly eggs to the church. I think taking them in so close to midnight clouded my vision; I do really appreciate Dad’s willingness to help me get the eggs to church on Saturday night... it helps me so very much to not have to deal with them Sunday morning... Well - back to Sunday... I spent a couple of hours making cookies and managed to finish just in time to leave for church, where I was joining a meeting of the YS presidency to go over our Personal Progress challenge and what we wanted to do for rewards.... But had to leave that meeting after the first 15 minutes (long enough to give them all my papers & explanations) to meet with one of our YW to update her records so she could participate in our Challenge. Then went into Sacrament meeting - looking around for a familiar body to sit next to and felt kind of lonely as Dean Burks was not there again (3rd week in a row). She is seriously ill and not even allowed to have visitors at the moment. I ended up sitting down in the place where we usually sat; then, as I sat down someone smiled and said “Hi” - and it was Michael (Marez) so I said, “Come sit with me” and he did. I enjoyed visiting with him.

After Sacrament meeting - which was absolutely wonderful - came Gospel Doctrine and YW - in which I had numerous things to do. When done with that there were still a number of things to finish up, which I did, then gathered my egg cartons & bag and headed outside. Stopped to talk with Brother Wallner for a few minutes, then helped Brother Garvin into my car, put his walker in the back and headed for home. When I got to Brother Garvin’s house I needed to visit with his wife, Jill, for a few minutes... then headed homeward, arriving just in time to put my dinner on the table quickly so we could eat and leave for church again - this time to pick up the YSAs and head for Eugene for the monthly (sometimes bi-monthly) meeting. We took the Suburban because we had a large group this time... actually one larger than we had planned, so seating got a little cramped (we were actually short one seat, so had to put four in the middle seat). We amazed everyone at the meeting by showing up with our group; in the past the greatest number we have been able to muster is 2, and most often, 1. It feels really neat to have gotten a group finally DOING things:)! Currently holding FHE’s weekly and planning activities - a service project in a couple of weeks, followed by an outing with Brother Hunsaker & possibly others with boats - at Cooper Creek. Go YSAs!!! Oh yes... the cookies, which were made for the trip up and back, were well received, along with the drinks. We are trying to figure out a way to do pizza next time... anyone have any suggestions on how best to do that? (No - we can’t stop at Abby’s on our way up or back!)

By the time we had delivered everyone back to the Stake center and made it home, it was late and we were very tired. Dad did some computer stuff - trying to get all the trust/Alpine village stuff taken care of... it is sometimes an overwhelming task. I try to help as much as I can, but there is so much that only he can do. I really don’t know how he is managing all he does right now; if you would like to add your prayers to mine for his well-being, that would be appreciated:)

Thanks for the blogs...we appreciate the news & pictures so much:)! I am still waiting for the “raw food diet” specifics... how can the rest of us learn how to get healthy if Emily & Adam won’t share with us??? (Maybe they don’t want us to be healthy?) Hmmm. Oh yes... has anyone else checked out the links on Holly’s blog to “Food Storage Made Easy” and “Craft of the Day”? I did yesterday; I think we should have a family challenge to join up on the food storage thing and take part in the 7 day challenge! Anyone up for that? Check it out at Holly’s blog (and check out her new recipe too:): http://steveandhollyo.blogspot.com/

Hope everyone has a great week! Love from Treasure Valley.... Mom

Ooops...P.S. Question for the Week: Do human beings have to lose something in order to really appreciate it? Or... do we have to have NOT had something in order to really appreciate it when we have it? Like... our health? the gospel? homes & families? Is this a part of the “there must be opposition in all things” ...??? I would be interested in your thoughts. I guess ANYONE who answers gets a Gold Star this time. (Note: Gold Stars will be delivered at the Reunion for those coming; for Jim and Jeanie I will have to mail them...)
